MISSIONAL COMMUNITIES OF

FIRST PRESBYTERIANCHURCH

WHAT IS A MISSIONAL COMMUNITY?

A Missional Community is a group of people, about the size of an extended family, who are united through the Christian community around a common service and witness to a neighborhood, community or network of relationships.  The Missional Community doesn't exist for anything less than making disciples of Jesus among these people.  The participants of missional communities find theirprimary identity of “church” within the missional community, rather than a larger worship service or small group.  In essence, this group of people becomes a close-knit spiritual family on mission together.

WHAT MAKES A MISSIONAL COMMUNITY SPECIAL?

Missional Communities are designed to be a flexible, local expression of church, not dependent on typical church buildings or church services.  They have been described as “small enough to care but large enough to dare.”  Missional Communities place a strong value on life together, with the expressed intention of seeing those they impact choose to start following Jesus.  With this focus, a Missional Community will often grow and multiply into other Missional Communities.  MissionalCommunities are most often networked within a larger church community, often with many other Missional Communities.

WHO CAN JOIN A MISSIONAL COMMUNITY?

Everyone is welcome to join a Missional Community.

PART OF FPC'S MISSION STATEMENT

FPC’s Missional Communities bring to life three aspects of our church’s Mission Statement:

MAKING DISCIPLES

Making Disciples:  Disciple" means student, pupil, or follower.  Jesus called and continues to call people to follow him.  Christ tells his disciples to make more disciples, “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28).  At FPC, we are disciples who make more disciples of Christ within our Missional Communities.

TO ONE ANOTHER

Jesus prays in John 17 that his disciples would be one just as he and the Father are one. When Christ's disciples live in loving community with one another, the world will notice. At FPC, we seek to be a loving community that shares the message of the loving Trinity,  pouring into one another within a MissionalCommunity.

TO THE WORLD

We are a missional people because God is a missional God. The word “mission” has its roots in the Latin word for “send.” We are sent, because God is a sending God. Just as we gather for worship, we scatter to spread God’s grace and peace.  At FPC, we are sent out to the world, starting with our Missional Communities here in Moncks Corner.
